First Wash in 44 years! Barn Find Datsun 280z with only 350 Original Miles

This is the rarest Datsun 280z Barn find ever recorded (as I've been told) with only 350 original miles! It was left in a barn near Hershey Pennsylvania before its first wash in 44 years! You'd expect this to be a complete detailing disaster because it was left untouched for so long...but the paint was in good condition despite being covered in filth and disgusting grime. In this barn find, we use AMMO Frothe to remove the first layer of dust and dirt to ensure the rubber seals did not leak if we power washed. Once confident, we power washed the paint, then compounded and polished with a Rupes polisher during our paint restoration. The Datsun 280z has since won several awards at Zcon and more information can be found at

  • You guys should do one half of the exterior then leave the other half and after that make a montage of the difference. Maybe its hard work just to do it again but it would be seem satisfying probably to everyone. 🤩👍

  • Being a Datsun owner for 40 years, all 240Zs, I took my daily driver completely apart 4 years ago for a frame up restore. NOS parts can tear a guys retirement apart as I have about $45,000 in to it so far with about another $8000 to go. So far, it is absolutely pristine. Am I the only guy that has $1500 tail lights and a $500 ashtray?

I spun it out on curve by the 2nd tee at the country club as a foursome was teeing up. I managed to keep it on the road and drove off like I meant to do it. I can still see the look on the golfers!

  • Every mile put on that car from now on will devalue it. Best to keep the vintage value and use it as a display or museum type display. It would only increase in value. There again, you can just drive it and enjoy it. In no time it will be worth about $1500.

  • I wonder how many remember when Nissan scoured the world for the best, most rust-free bodies they could buy and remanufactured a batch of 240Z's for sale to the public? They were rebuilt from the ground up, no expense spared. I remember thinking at the time that their $25K price was a bargain. I have yet to see ONE of those factory re-made Z's anywhere. I think it was 1984, but not sure. Can't even find a link about the program.

    Aaron PlunkettAaron PlunkettAcum 5 Zile
    • Yep, Fram NOT original. I worked at the first Datsun Dealer in the USA (San Diego Datsun) in the 70's, we had two 240Z engines destroyed by tiny bits of glue traced to the inside of those Fram Filters (that were installed by customers... we always used Datsun/Nissan filters) , the bits of glue plugged up the oil feed holes to the overhead cams.
