Zedaph, try getting some acoustic panels to help with the echo! They're pretty much just foam cut in patterns meant to dampen sound waves. If you have any of those puzzle piece foam mats for children's play areas laying around, you can tape them up on the wall and they should work almost as well. If you're really on a budget, local larpers can probably point you to a foam supply store where you can just go buy the cheapest grade foam they have by the foot and cover the room in that. Less dense will probably be better for dampening sound and should probably be cheaper. I haven't been to my local one, but I assume you can get a decent deal for that much foam. Acoustic panels online seem to only be ~1 USD per square foot though
Home improvement stores also sell interlocking foam mats that could be used. They're sold in packs of four 2'x2' in the US and aren't really expensive.
