  • Thank you so much for telling me about the Duo, and for me to use edge to watch your new 4k videos so much cleaner then the app, and your blonde hair on the iPhone12 review really stands out.

  • This is exactly how a review should be done! Not just listing specs and assuming all phones are the same - therefore dismissing it for not having a certain amount of RAM or MHz screen etc. She used the phone, explored its various use cases and detailed how she found it in those different situations. Explained what was good and what wasn't as an individual device. Perfect review.

  • Even though the product needs major upgrades, and obviously isn’t the best out there, I still might buy it anyway for the multitasking capabilities that doesn’t exist on other phones. I hate constantly leaving a ROworld video to answer texts, emails, and Facebook messages. Or leaving a page on a social media app to do other things, and when I come back to it, it auto refreshes and I lose what I was looking at/working on. Just for those few reasons, this device is a Godsend for me. I don’t really need high end photos or videos, and the lack of a front screen would end my compulsive habit to constantly turn my screen on to check out what’s there. Win win in my book. I’ll be getting and enjoying this device, and just be on the lookout for the second generation when it rolls around

  • Why do I want this phone now? I haven't thought much about the DUO until after watching this review. 😂 It's weird I feel like I should just go with another phone with a really good camera but I really want the DUO now. 🤔🤷‍♂️ Justine demo the camera perfectly. She made all the complaints about the DUO's camera seem like user error. Maybe Justine should teach other reviewers how to use the DUO's camera ???

  • Duo can be a good gadget bridge between a mobile phone and a notebook. If you are using Microsoft applications for work, you can do it on DUO without pulling out the notebook when not in the workplace. However, it will take quite a while to keep up the standard of leisure and social usage. One question, are you able to find any protecting cover for DUO?

  • > some of the app won't switch properly tbh... that happens on my Pixel3A too. e.g. open app A, open app B, swipe to app A... app shows up a second and disappeared, and I can see my desktop. Then I'll have to hit the home button, go to desktop, then swipe up to bring out my task view and and launch my app from there. So... could be an Android Pie issue in general.

  • only 3:43 into the video so far, and already feel uplifted and feel faith in microsoft restored a bit and my initial good impression of this device from the launch announcement and trailers etc a year ago being restored about by this review from ijustine..really great review so far, good seeing someone hands-on with the device finally, good seeing it can do more than i thought it could.. she mentions teams calls aka microsoft teams..is that app finally after 2-3 years working for consumers like it was supposed to when it launched and again when microsoft 365 branding replaced office 365 branding a short while back? when i got my office 365 subscription teams was one of the apps supposed to be part of the subscription/purchase, it was part of the reason i got the subscription in the first place along with the 5 family members/close friends, the multiple devices/installs, and the 1tb of onedrive storage per person times up to 5 users.... but teams has never worked...there is no demo or way to install it without having a "work or school" account it doesn't seem like. it is infuriating in a way.."Microsoft Account" was supposed to eliminate all this bs about different accounts and "work or school" account... "Microsoft Account" is supposed to be what Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Mobile, Continuum, One Microsoft Initiative, One Windows, UWP, Microsoft Store, etcetera and so forth were all supposed to be based on/around..along with future integrations with XBOX Live..it's also what Cortana was supposed to be based on.. it was supposed to be about streamlining and efficiency and making tech feel great to use and be beneficial to people devices like surface, surface pro, surface go, surface duo were supposed to be the 2nd and 3rd waves of this initiative to provide the necessary hardware for consumers to take advantage of the full benefits Microsoft can offer with its cloud and software and expertise..providing a low level enterprise grade of software/hardware/and services in a combined affordable package all wrapped up nice and neat with a pretty bow and an ice cream cone with a cherry on top for consumers.. surface duo is supposed to illustrate they can put aside their differences and work with google, and surface duo along with the your phone app is supposed to provide a ecosystem type experience for those with windows pcs/desktops/laptops and android smartphones to compare at least somewhat with what apple provides with the macos/ios combined ecosystem of software/hardware/services.. microsoft seems to be getting there, but they continue shooting themselves in the foot or taking 3 steps backwards every step of the way...closing xbox music and putting groove music in its place then closing that too offering a half-hearted apology and pushing people to spotify because spotify paid microsoft to promote spotify heavily/primarily... closing windows 8 because it was ahead of its time and people not ready for it yet and launching windows 10 with less features then windows 8 had and i even read articles with users of windows 7 complaining it was missing features windows 7 had the primary reason for upgrading to windows 10 was it was cortana along with uwp/microsoft account/microsoft store and a somewhat broken promise of adding more features over time and restoring features beloved from windows 8 over time etcetera along with future integrations with xbox that have proven poorly implemented in many cases.. xbox game bar has been gutted or reworked several times now mixer has been closed down broadcasting and that type of innovative functionality that windows never had before that xbox game bar enabled no longer seems functional/able to work because of all the changes to twitch integration, xbox game bar, mixer, etcetera cortana is completely gutted, back to defaulting to bing search when you try to ask it to answer a question/talk to you, and now says it needs a "work or school" account when it never did before...

    • "her guitar is purple!"-ijustine 2020 ♥ timestamp 7:10 ----------------------------------------------- that adaptive posture and adaptive taskbar is amazing and especially how it is shutting off the unused screen...awesome ♥ ---------------------- okay up to like 15-16 minutes in now..amazing review, camera far better than i thought, everything seems to be working far better than i thought from articles i've been reading..thank you for this great review.. cool how they can do xbox games on it. love how the camera was switching modes based on how you were holding it, never seen anything like that before. would be cool in future if they were able to include a little clock and signal/battery indicators and maybe play pause touch controls inside that huge windows logo on the outside of the device and maybe a indicator for when a call is coming in. maybe in blue if they can only do it in one color as i think a pale blue against that phone color would be pretty, or maybe they could get fancy and have it in your windows accent color like the "iris spring" accent color i use. ♥

    • watched to 5:50 now..laughing and smiling and calmed down from my microsoft rant Discord & Chrome Discord & Netflix Discord & Crunchyroll all the time trying to read fanfiction or look something up or do something in chrome when discord group call starts and they want my attention focused on them or what they are screen sharing/video sharing/broadcasting... and i don't mind but i want to be able to utilize my time well sometimes and keep quietly doing what i'm doing while talking to them/watching with them...something like this surface duo and app groups feature would be amazing for that.. :) ♥ i got 2 monitors for my pc in 2016 when the new desktop i bought came with a 27 ips display/monitor as part of a bundle box at sam's club and i already had a 32 inch tv i bought for my xbox one and was using for it and as second and/or alternate display for my laptop.. i've never gone back to having only one screen...never even wanted to try going back to only one screen..lol have 2 screens for my desktop now and love it..and find myself sometimes also turning on one or both of my android tablets.. my laptops sadly are all in their cases/put away and basically back up computers/devices now...anything i would need them for in the past i use one of the tablets or the desktop for now days..even my lumia 735 smartphone has stayed put away and not got much use since i got the 8 inch samsung galaxy tab a 8.0 tablet back in fall 2018...the tablet does almost everything better then the phone and has a bigger screen and more and better apps in some ways, and my friends prefer discord skype and hangouts to actually using a phone as a phone or sending texts..they prefer how discord skype and hangouts can do both text and calling in a single program..so even as a phone the lumia gets like no use..especially since i have a water resistant mil-spec type kyocera flip phone as my primary phone that i carry with me to and from work. lol got sidetracked again..but yeah 2 screens i've never gone back from it..right now i have a fanfiction full screen on one monitor and this review/youtube open on the other monitor will also tend to have windows 10 mail on one screen and discord or chrome/youtube on the other(strange how i love the outlook android app but prefer windows 10 default mail app on my desktop, anytime i even try to open the desktop outlook app i end up immediately feeling negative/bombarded and things and want to hit the x/close button as soon as it opens/loads...i like all the features/extended menus/feature sets it has if i need them..but i almost never do and windows 10 mail is a much more pleasant experience...[though windows 10 mail seriously needs to show who the sender is before you open the email] ) also like to have one screen with chrome or whatever i'm doing or whatever i'm watching or whatever game i'm playing...and then will have file explorer or whatever else i need to use or temporarily open/access on the other screen. in some ways having dual screens/displays/monitors takes me back to the windows 95 days when i was first learning how to use computers really/old enough to understand, and how programs back then were designed to be windowed/tiled and had fonts/scaling designed to facilitate this and have 3-4 windows open on your desktop next to each other and still be usable/readable/fully functional having dual screens takes me back to that and i find i really enjoy having that multi tasking ability restored...windows 98, windows me, windows xp, etc and the programs that ran on them were almost always intended for full screen use to work properly or have full access to the menu bar or be readable/fully legible..etcetera..at best with windows 8 we regained the ability to have 2-3 programs side by side with the "snap" feature.. but most programs are still designed for full-screen use and my eyesight is not what it used to be from having to look at screens all day much of the time in college and nearly all the time monitoring camera feeds at work since then.. plus nearly all the time looking at a pc or phone or laptop or tablet screen when not at work..almost every waking minute is spent looking at a computer screen... so having 2 monitors is a god-send you can zoom everything to 125,150, or even 175% zoom and still see everything properly with modern displays/monitors and you can still have 2 programs full screen...with using alt-tab active program switching feature i sometimes have as much as 5 or so programs full screen at once. 2 active and switching the others in and out as needed. so the app group feature on the duo looks like an amazing added feature/benefit to me also sometimes on my desktop i will open youtube to the same music video on both monitors and get it manually synced so i can watch and hear the same video on both screens simultaneously..it give the audio a bit of a boost and a bit more fullness/richness of sound..can produce some hilarity when slightly out of sync..and give the experience you used to get in kmart sears or walmart seeing the content on all the tvs or most of the tvs at once when they had multiple tvs going for comparison shopping purchases...kind of your own homemade surround sound surround video mini movie theater multimedia type of experience.. :) • ---------------------------------------------- its infuriating bc groove was an amazing app skype was great until they started trying to add too many gifs and e-motes and new features breaking the core functionality of the program being calling/screen sharing/video watch parties..we had to switch to discord(which is starting to suffer similar problems now a year or two later as skype had in 2017-2018) xbox game bar was groundbreaking and astonishing when it came out and initially i loved using it when i had time i would love to just be able to buy everything from google play store and/or microsoft store for my devices...but they keep shooting themselves there too with a glitchy/buggy store experience in the microsoft store, and developers not latching on and so many things still needing stupid launcher apps or downloads from chrome/browser to install/work i like native apps not browser apps or downloads or game launchers or similar bs clutter..the microsoft store was supposed to be elegant and simple and remove all that... people don't remember but windows 8 and windows 10 key feature was supposed to be the ability of microsoft store to upgrade/install things in the background..it's the biggest reason why task manager bogs down and doesn't work properly much of the time in windows 10..because all guides to proper use of your pc and proper use of task manager still say don't have more then 25-35 apps and/or processes running..and nowadays windows processes are over 100 background/windows processes are over 100, and this is if you yourself are not running any apps/programs other then task manager itself or only running one app/program or 2-4 apps/programs yourself... they even broke the ability of task manager to properly control your pc...ctrl alt del usually doesn't interrupt and bring up task manager or resolve bogging down/freezing up issues anymore..ctrl shft esc the direct shortcut for task manager only seems to have a 50-75% chance of working..increasingly the past 2-3 years i have to use the power button on my tower anytime the pc gets frozen by a video memory issue or an issue with discord or final fantasy xiv and some program/audio/visual conflict/glitch or something.. ------------------------------------- they introduce great things like paint 3d and timeline but not much you can seem to do with either feature/program and timeline again tends to tell you from time to time that you need a "work or school" account to make proper use of the feature... i'm just like "no, i don't...this is why i have a Microsoft Account and what you said i needed one for" i actually have 2 Microsoft Accounts technically and still get told this.. I have my original MSN email/account that was converted into a stand alone email slash Microsoft Account when we stopped using MSN dial-up service for my parents internet but wanted to keep our email addresses and i found i needed a Microsoft Account for my new Windows 8 laptop i had just bought back in summer of 2013... then like 1-3 years ago i forget when i got notified for some things i would need an Outlook email to keep having my Microsoft account work right..and only way i could figure out to get an outlook email was to make a new account which made a new Microsoft Account... so despite having 2 Microsoft Accounts one that was originally the more powerful/useful MSN account...i keep getting told that an official service/program from Microsoft needs a generic "work or school" account to work properly...grr/ugh... i already graduated college with 2 degrees in 2008 so i don't have any kind of school account anymore..and i'm not an executive or it worker or anything so i don't have a work account either..security officers don't get issued work email accounts ordinarily sometimes if they are a site supervisor/captain/on-site/acting account manager then maybe..otherwise everything is done in person over the phone or with personal email if email has to be used..and i've been with 5 different security companies in the past 12 years and this has always been the case that only people in the branch office or executive positions get email/work accounts with the occasional exception of site captains/supervisors, field trainers/supervisors, and sometimes company provided site smartphones will have a gmail account created for all officers on the site/post to use..but usually not.. so no consumers and most employees at most companies have literally zero access to a "work or school" account Microsoft..you are just gating away features you promised to consumers/borderline false advertising. ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------

  • First, Great review! Thank you, I have been so looking forward to this device. I really think Microsoft missed the mark on the processor and not including 5G. That is stupid. I worry that because of that and the high cost, it will not be widely adopted and therefore will be discontinued by Microsoft. Perhaps they are going to try to position this as a business phone, which quite frankly it would be fantastic at. But that aside, I can't wait to get one anyway, then I guess I will have to beg my wife to let me upgrade when the next release comes out, if it does. One of the things that I really am looking forward to is using this as a note taking device in meetings. I currently have a Surface book, which is awesome, but it's hard to take notes on because I use it as my primary compute device. I do not want to ever disconnect it. The DUO phone may serve this roll nicely. Second, and most important... What kind of dog is that? She is really adorable. Looks kind of like a Bichon Frise to me. Anyway, she looks very intelligent and is extremely cute.

  • wonderful and thoughtful review. You can definitely tell you spent real time with the phone. I love the Surface Duo and I can't imagine going back to my Galaxy S20 or any other phone. Though getting used to stock Android is a bit rough when i grew up on Samsung (S20, S10+, S9, S8).

  • justine is the only reviewer that actually used the phone. In addition, shows us her using it for real. Then she talks way more in depth about how you can use it in real life. IJustine wins the Best Surface Duo Review Award.

  • An actual, legitimate review of the Duo. Every other “critic” is bashing with no real reason. Thank you Justine!!!!
