  • You own overpriced apple products and you're going to make a big deal about the cost?!

    JanMarie KellyJanMarie KellyAcum lună
    • @JanMarie Kelly No I read it correctly. You didn’t touch on the ecosystem. It’s easy it’s faster and the surface duo is also a flop. Microsoft sent out a fumbled product, just like Samsung’s galaxy fold, both impressive but both fumbled. But I’m sure you are very quirky with all your customization! If you know exactly what you’re paying for then the likelihood that you’ll be satisfied is very high. Oh and Note 7 go Kaboom!

      HarrisonDotComHarrisonDotComAcum 19 Zile
    • Apparently you didn't read my comment correctly I didn't say I wouldn't pay that price I was commenting that the reviewer owns over-priced apple products but then wines about some other device being expensive. I, personally wouldn't buy the duo because I love my Note phones (and, btw I do have a surface pro that works great) so I have no problem with things that cost money - if they provide value, but overpaying for something just because of a name (i.e. Apple) without the actual value being there is different. And Apple is NOT for the people, Apple is FOR APPLE - they don't let you do shit with their devices (as far as customize them for your particular use, etc.), but they are excellent at marketing and getting people who think they are special and have a status symbol when they plunk down their money on products that haven't changed much in years just so they can say they have an Apple product even though other devices out preform them constantly (unless you just want a camera and device to waste time on social media - then by all means toss your money at Apple).

      JanMarie KellyJanMarie KellyAcum lună
    • But what does it get you???? You could get a full surface pro for that price. If you don’t like the price then don’t buy it. Apple is for the people. Don’t hate the playa hate the game!

  • Everyday Dad (I love that handle) , but I find it amusing that some of the features (yeah, I know "features") that you mentioned a negative, are what make it a good deal for me. I have three primary differences with your final assessment. 1. Yes, you could buy the tablet, iphone and the keyboard for the same price (more or less), but, as you also said, that is a significant load to carry around. To combine the keyboard, phone and tablet like functions into a single form-factor that is slim, compact and extremely portable, it is a wonder. 2. The price; See above in a single manageable platform. You praised the physical appeal. I agree completely. However, having worked in/around the technology sector, surface mount technology is neither cheap nor easy, but it is fast, efficient and, (nerd speaking here) kinda sexy. But, yeah, it does suck bullets on the paycheck. 3. Headphones are ubiquitous, as are portable speakers, so, in my mind, this minimizes the concern about sound quality. Hell, even my hearing aids have Bluetooth connectivity and an equalizer app combined with noise cancelling. For your amusement, I submit this. My first "portable" (self-contained) computer had a smaller built-in 6" screen, an 8088 processor (running at ~5mHz), and weighed 60lbs... All for the low, low price of $6000 - $8000.

  • I really want this thing, and to be honest i don't care about the hard lessons we have always learned while dealing with Microsoft. Yes!, Their first release is a prototype. I get it! But damn man. I am the market for this prototype. I could care less about what this 'phonee' generation cares about. I've been saying for a long time, that people are gonna get tired of phones, and all these stupid apps. It is eventually going to be about productivity and usefulness and not about consumption as much. Well I think Microsoft is about to take over if they can justify this price point in a few years. Who cares about selfies, and playing music from phone speakers. Who cares about all those retarded android apps that don't know how to use 2 screens. All you need is books, and microsoft suite apps for a person like me. And even those apps that just strecth every across the gap still look better than being on a single screen, especially when you turn the phone sidways. It is like a huge monitor to view an app that used to look cramped and now it like you are sitting at a desk viewing it. If android developers don't catch on then screw them. There is so much ground to gain by developing two player games really cool interactions for apps while using a single phone, etc. I'm already thinking of BattleShip on this damn phone!

I day trade, so this is the phone I've been looking for. I LOVE this phone, and Im looking forward to the updates because the software is wonky at the time unfortunately. Yes, there are bugs and your assessment of it being a miniature computer is corrects. Myself being a developer, I think there are a lot off issues that will be covered by updates. For me, the only issue for me is the lack of 5G. Then, for $1,400.00 you can get a Macbook? - Yuck!!!!!!!!! for one, it's from Apple. Bleach!

  • I found great ways to use my Duo so far! For work I’m constantly on Google calendar, Slack, google docs, etc. So I just keep it in phone mode all day at work to get those notifications haven’t been late for any meetings anymore and haven’t missed a beat on work assignments. The other use I have found to be AMAZING is mobile trading because now I can group my charts and journals or even watch two charts at the same time...this is IMPOSSIBLE on a regular phone and omg I’m excited of the possibilities! The last thing I have found awesome is I can use this in Bible studies! I can group the Bible and OneNote to take notes on the other screen!😃 I’m seriously excited about finding other great things with this device I swear Microsoft tapped into something with this. I agree with you about the software it should be updated like to the latest snapdragon, maybe even put windows 10 on it, upgrade the Ram, keep the same camera concept but fix the buggy software and upgrade it to a small 4K camera then make the bezels smaller so it gives even more area to work with. Also make the speakers stereo. I downloaded sound booster and bass booster apps and it help some but they need to add stereo speakers for 1,400-1,600 dollars come on now lol. I don’t think they should include a camera on the back nor should they add any notifications on the front it’s nice to be done with work and close it up for the day. They fix the little kinks and this is going to blow every smartphone out the water!

  • The issue with the duo running windows instead of android is that it would cause the same issue windows phone had. Lack of apps. If they want people to replace their phone with a duo, they need users to be able to have access to all the same apps they had on their phone. We also need to consider that the duo is supposed to be in between a phone and a computer. Neither but all at the same time. That's how it's being positioned. I would have loved it to run windows, but we all know that would have made it the next windows phone, which wouldn't be good.

  • Oh yes it's really that bad. I to was a little skeptical till I went to my local best buy to try the display unit and damn what a steaming pile of garbage that software is! Like it is really sad because the hardware is very nice I couldn't believe how thin it was but the software literally cripples the experience. First thing I did was try opening youtube up and the device for the life of it could not decide which way it should orient the keyboard, so it gave up and was perpetually looped in some sick horror show that was basically the phone have an endless seizure. I laughed and walked away. Within 45 seconds I saved myself from wasting $1400. Good thing display units for these exist. I honestly feel bad for the development team for the hardware as they poured their heart and soul and have made a finely crafted piece of technology, just for the software team to give zero shits and throw whatever hell android version that is because it's worse than FroYo stability wise.

  • a few cents and food for thought to all other viewers to add to this video: No matter how much I hear of Microsoft’s attempt to tout Surface Duo as the device that can use 2 apps, there’s something that bugs me greatly about the actual functionality of the multitasking and software inside the Surface Duo that effectively turns this device from what appears to be gold to more like fool’s gold: for $1,400, and even if price ends up coming down later on (if it even happens), how come I’m getting multitasking that just simply consists of just these functions: -one app open with home screen at side -two apps open side-by-side (curious, probably a given too, can the surface duo run two windows of one app?) -functionality to switch positions of app window(s) -ability to go full-screen for one app -Drag-and-drop Compared to say, ANY iPad model (even regular and mini ones too) that can do ALL of these multitasking features: -one app open with functionality of using dock to open another app or open second and/or third app as needed -two apps open side-by-side (either two windows of same app or two different apps) via split screen functionality -functionality to switch positions of app window(s) -Drag-and-drop, a feature I abuse greatly and its been there since iOS 11, which has been existent for 3 years and counting -ability to go full-screen for one app -Ability to run at least 3 apps at once -Multiple window configurations (at least 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, slide over for third app of choosing) for apps present, also been existent ever since iOS 11, -Ability to switch window configuration between split screen and slide over for apps as you need it -ability to switch between apps set to the slide over configuration, number of apps/windows that you can switch to is limitless Just something to add to your reco to NOT buy a Surface Duo. Just look at value comparison between the two I mentioned, PLUS also how far behind surface duo (and Microsoft too) is in multitasking relative to all iPads. Great video!!!

    Kent YangKent YangAcum 2 luni
    • Also android tablets like s7/s7+ can do those multitasking things. In my opinion ipad pro has advantage with a few ‘pro’ apps but problems when one uses the file system (like me). Android is like a normal machine when using the file system (no tricks like copying the same file into multiple apps like on ipad). Maybe the point is tablets can do better what the duo is supposed to do (side by side multitasking).

  • If your a windows user and you work on multiple screens for work it's a no brainer. If it increases your productivity i.e. more profit then price not so much of a negative. its closest competitor is the Galaxy Z Fold at retail $1999. For a productivity device its worth the investment.

    • It can easily be fixed with new Android 11 that will support dual screen apps....idk why they didn't use 12gb ram on a multitasking defeats the whole purpose of multitasking...why use low struggles with ram management and it has 12gb

      Roman ShockerRoman ShockerAcum 2 luni
  • I like the honest opinion. Sorry but disagree, it is Android's issue with the dual screen. Simply put the OS doesn't deal with the hardware properly, that's 100% OS right there. And there is no other OS short of full Windows that MS can conceivably use. The other thing that sticks out is the cost comparisons at the end is off-base. All the things used to compare $1,400 is not directly comparable and the the assistant at the end, that's $1,400/month not a one-time is that even remotely comparable? Why would I get an iPad with magic keyboard when I can get a used car for $1,400 that has so much more value? Or a lifetime membership to jello-of-the-month? Lost some credibility with those last examples. It would've been better to compare with the price of the Z fold and what the extra cost of that gets you.

  • I own and love the Duo. I get the price is an issue. But I believe it is still worthy of consideration. I agree with the up and down bezels. They are too thich. The side bezels are perfect. My previous Samsung had almost no bezels. My fingers on the side would often trigger responses I did not want to initiate. The software has its rough edges. Sometimes actions do not occur or I am surprised by an unexplained response. My backlight likes to dim all the time. Many issues will be fixed. If not I would not say the issues should prevent on from purchasing the Duo. The two screens are so awesome that all the issues almost don't matter. I love my Duo.

  • This is typical Microsoft, releasing a product way before it's ready. I remember Windows was crap -- crashed all the time -- until release 3.1. 3.11 was the stable release that made Windows a sensation. After that was Windows NT, and that was fine. Back when Office wasn't bundled as a product, each of the products took a few releases before they were usable.

Well worth $1500 I want you to test your knowledge and tell us why a Snapdragon 855 is "out of date"?? Have you played with the camera after learning how to use it? The screens are outstanding. The speaker (singular) is an OK one. could care less about "wireless" charging as it has 18W fast charge with a 6' USB 3.1 cord. My software and UI work fine. As for "useful" thin does matter, my Surface Duo weighs less than my Lumia 950 with Mozo leather back and is same height and only slightly wider, the same thickness when folded. Of course, I get the full glorious 8.1 inch fusion display and it works via "Your Phone" well with my Surface Pro or Desktop. $500 ? No way

    • This device is clearly still a prototype that’s now outdated. Old processor, poor camera, poor bezels, screen isn’t great, speakers are not great, no wireless charging, software optimisation is awful......Paying $1400 for a thin glass design and the hinge engineering, neither of which is actually useful. This should be no more than $500.

Obviously, every device has some bugs including the very mature current Mac and Windows OS. But, I still didn't encounter any of the problems that the bashers report. Everything worked as it should. One thing that helped me was watching videos of people who know how to use the device and learning the gestures and hidden tricks. I've noticed a lot of these bashers really don't know how to use the device or understand what it's about.

But, I subscribed to your channel 3/4 months ago when I searched for the new and highly anticipating XPS 15 and your videos showed up. I clicked and watched, and it's amazing. First off, the sound quality of your videos is definitely top notch, and the video quality isn't too bad either. But the most important thing is, I've always find most popular tech ROworldrs' reviews too generic, they all sound utterly similar without distinguishable opinions, but yours stood out, at least it's noteworthy to me when I'm making a purchase decision personally (and Hardware Canucks' long term smartphone reviews too). I hope my comment doesn't offended you and also your channel will grow rapidly to help more audiences with their purchase decision. Cheers ❤️

  • Everyday Dad, when will you get the GoPro 9? I’m waiting for your review even though I watched dozens of reviews from others... yours is what I wait for to make my final decision.... LOL 😂

  • Watching this on my ow surface duo, had it for around 24h now. If you're into bleeding edge tech, then this is for you!

    • @Laurie Alach I also love how people condemn everything based off these youtubers reviews..... I'm typing this on my duo... After software update... It's great

    • Bleeding edge: relating to or describing systems, devices, or ideas that are so modern that they are still being developed. Is the software not developing, is it not a first gen device?

      Oliver LundströmOliver LundströmAcum 2 luni
    • Duo is hardly bleeding edge tech right now, since the only tech that qualifies is just the addition of hinges to hardware design without groundbreaking software to change how multitasking is done. Sadly, all of those multitasking features on the duo are the same features (with some of different but still effective or better variations) that are already mainstream on all iPad models, which makes the multitasking vision Microsoft is touting seem not much right now.

    • @Laurie Alach I barely use my laptop that's how. I'm quite interested in stock trading and cryptocurrency. The dual screen form factor makes the management of such thing so much easier. Also I use it for drawing on when one screen is the canvas the other one is some inspiration of what I'm drawing. The benefits of two screens should be self explanatory, if you don't know then try it. It's 60 days money back either way.

  • I think it’s one of the most interesting devices for 2020, and I can see it being useful for my needs... but not this generation. I look forward to a lot of software issues ironed out with next generation of two. Just like Samsung’s foldable, 1st generation hell no, 2nd generation... hmmm, maybe!😂

  • You're one of the few tech channels on ROworld I really enjoy regularly now, along with people like MobileTechReview. Keep up the great work. Been enjoying my new MBP 13 inch with the 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports. Does everything I need it to do and more! Returned the refurb which was the base model with two Thunderbolt 3 ports and just got that one and my needs were definitely met since I plug a lot of stuff into these things and needed the extra RAM and storage, better CPU and cooling. Almost wanted to try the 16 inch as well since it wasn't too much different in price for the base model, but something's telling me to hold off for a bit and consider it later. Just don't want to have so much clutter in my room as is and look at it long term when I need to move and travel more.

  • I had to return mine. It was so buggy it was unusable. After repeated conversations with Microsoft support, they told me they had no idea when they would push a software update and suggested I just return the phone. (unfortunately, I did not want to pay 1500 to beta test a phone that Microsoft should have tested first). While the microsoft store (for people brave enough to shell out all the cash) is offering a 60 day return policy, best buy and att have 14 days, so unfortunately they are going to get a ton of devices returned as a week has already gone by and they have not sent any updates. (there website also says "no known bugs") so obviously they are in denial about just how unready this device is.
